Last weekend, Millwood FD members were invited to train with Briarcliff Manor FD members on rope rescue and elevator rescue techniques, taught by the great trainers at Signal 73 Fire Training.
On Saturday, members first reviewed the basics of rope rescue, including a review of the different types of knots that are crucial on the fireground. Members then put their knowledge into action by conducting a high-angle stokes basket rescue simulation using Briarcliff Manor FD’s Tower Ladder 40. After lunch, members traveled to the Edith Macy Center to practice patient packaging and low-angle haul systems skills in a real-life setting.
Sunday was dedicated to elevator rescue skills, beginning with a presentation on the basics of elevator type identification, hazards, and rescue strategies. Next, members were able to use an elevator in a local condo complex to practice door opening, power shut down, drifting the hydraulic elevator, victim rescue via lowering a rescuer through the top, and victim removal with high-angle rope systems.
A big thank you to Briarcliff Manor FD for inviting our members, and Signal 73 for training our members on these crucial skills. |
