Just before 10:30am yesterday morning, Millwood FD was dispatched with an engine from Briarcliff Manor FD and a FASTeam from Croton-on-Hudson FD to a reported structure fire on Somerstown Road. Car 2258 (Safety Officer) was first to arrive on scene and reported smoke was showing from the structure. Upon arrival, Car 2253 (Chief Santone) transmitted the 10-75 (working fire assignment). This brought a tower ladder from Mt. Kisco FD, Chappaqua VAC and WCDES Battalion 10 to the scene, and a ladder from Yorktown Heights FD, an engine from Chappaqua FD, an engine from Pleasantville FD, and a tanker from Pocantico Hills FD to relocate to our 2 stations to cover any additional calls in district. Upon the arrival of Car 2251 (Chief Rodrigues) and Ladder 52, the main body of fire was found in the basement and members forced entry into the structure, established a positive water source, stretched the initial hoseline into the structure, and began a primary search. When Engine 247 and Engine 248 arrived, additional hoselines were stretched into the structure to assist with mitigation efforts. Millwood FD, with over 15 members, and mutual aid departments made an aggressive push to extinguish the fire and had it under control within 1 hour. Ossining VAC was requested to the scene to provide rehab services to firefighters. During the primary search, a dog was found and quickly transported to the Millwood Animal Hospital, but unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Millwood members remained on scene for 3 hours before returning to service.
We thank our mutual aid partners for their quick response and strong work to get this fire under control quickly.
