Fish Tank Fire
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

February 21, 2024

At 5am yesterday morning, Millwood FD was dispatched with an engine from Chappaqua FD and the Mt. Kisco FD FASTeam to a reported fish tank fire in the northern section of our district. Car 2253 (Chief Santone) was first to arrive on scene and confirmed that there was a fire located under the fish tank due to an overheated power strip that was extinguished by the homeowner prior to the arrival of fire department resources. Car 2253 returned the Chappaqua FD engine and Mt. Kisco FD FASTeam to service but continued in Engine 247, Engine 248, and Ladder 52 to assist with ventilation and ensuring the fire did not spread beyond the fish tank's cabinet. Millwood FD members returned to service within an hour.

This is another case of smoke alarms saving lives. The homeowner was alerted to the fire by their fire alarm early in the morning, smelled odor of smoke, determined the source of the smoke, and extinguished the fire quickly. Without functioning fire alarms, this fire may have grown larger and more dangerous before being detected.

Units: Car 2251, Car 2252, Car 2253, Engine 247, Engine 248, Ladder 52

Mutual Aid: Chappaqua FD, Mt. Kisco FD
