First Due Structure Fire on Lakeview Road

May 16, 2021

**First Due Structure Fire**

At 11:30 last night, shortly after returning from a standby for the Ossining Fire Department, Millwood FD was dispatched to a reported house fire on Lakeview Road with Briarcliff Manor Fire Department Engine 94 and the Ossining FD FASTeam. While en route, Millwood Car 2253 (Chief McCarthy) spotted a large header, with smoke banking down onto the road, and called for the 10-75 (working fire) assignment. The 10-75 brought Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department Tower Ladder 14, Battalion 17, an ambulance from Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Pleasantville Volunteer Ambulance Corps's rehab unit to the scene. It also put Bedford Hills Fire Department Engine 199 and Ossining FD Ladder 41 at Station 1, as well as Pocantico Hills Fire Department Tanker 12 and Montrose FD Engine 123 at Station 2.

Shortly after Car 2253 got on scene, Car 2251 (Chief Raguso), Car 2252 (Chief Rodrigues) and Engine 248 arrived and secured a water source and pulled 2 hoselines to the front of the home. Under the command of Car 2253, in just under 10 minutes after arrival, the crew of Engine 248 had a positive water source and 2 handlines in operation. Crews made a transitional attack, starting from the exterior of the structure and working their way to the interior as they made progress. Within 15 minutes, a large portion of the fire had been darkened down by the handlines and Ladder 52's master stream operation. Operations were challenged by solar panels on the roof that couldn't be disconnected due to a melted electrical box in the garage.

Once all visible fire was knocked down, all crews began extensive overhaul of the structure. This led to the Montrose FD engine being called to the scene to assist and the Ossining FD FASTeam being put to work. Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department FASTeam was requested to respond as the new FASTeam and The Chappaqua Fire Department Engine 146 to backfill Station 2. Units were released from the scene within 3 hours.

We thank our mutual aid partners for their help and hard work during this incident.
