The Millwood Fire Company protects the residents of Millwood, New York, a hamlet of the town of New Castle, as well as large numbers of residents with Chappaqua, Ossining, and Briarcliff addresses. The Millwood Fire District spans approximately 10 square miles with nearly 7000 residents in the north central part of Westchester County. We are currently comprised of nearly fifty members, and are actively growing. Responding from two stations, we protect a primarily residential fire district with a handful of commercial developments, as well as a regional electrical substation, a regional water filtration plant, several public schools, a large Childrens acute care facility, and several group homes. Our neighboring departments - with whom we work very closely - include the Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Ossining, Yorktown, and Croton Fire Departments.
The Millwood Fire Company is a membership corporation whose members are dedicated volunteers. Our volunteer members save the residents of the Millwood Fire District millions of dollars each year. Responding at any time of the day and night, our members leave their places of work and homes, leaving behind their jobs and families to proudly and professionally protect the residents and property of the Millwood Fire District. The Millwood Fire Company currently responds to nearly 400 alarms per year, ranging from automatic fire alarm activations, and car accidents, to structure fires, and life-threatening situations. The Fire District and Chiefs Staff have worked tirelessly to improve the ISO Rating to a 3/3Y ( Hydranted vs. non hydranted areas ) which saves our homeowners thousands in Insurance premiums. If you have any questions about your ISO rating, please feel free to contact Assistant Chief Greg Santone at: gsantone1@gmail.com
Serving an area of diverse terrain, a large portion of our district does not contain fire hydrants. To solve this problem, we operate out of two Fire Stations with a Tanker carrying 3,000 + gallons of water housed at our Station 2 on Croton Dam Road ( Route 134 ) and have mutual-aid agreements with surrounding departments. In the event of a larger fire, multiple tankers can be requested to transport additional water to the scene, providing a positive source of water even with the lack of hydrants.
Another part of the Millwood Fire District includes the Taconic State Parkway. Accounting for approximately ten percent of the annual call volume, the Millwood Fire Company responds to the parkway with mutual-aid given to and received from the Briarcliff Manor and the Yorktown Heights Fire Departments. Rescue-36 based out of Station 1, has a full complement of hydraulic rescue tools, in addition to Engine-248 based from Station 2, which has an additional full complement of hydraulic rescue tools.
The Millwood Fire Company is dispatched by Westchester County Emergency Services (60-control) primarily via radio-pager as well as supplemental cell-based texts. Our primary operations are on Westchester County DES Trunk 17. Emergency 911 calls are received by the NYS Police and the New Castle Police Department, and then forwarded to 60-Control for proper dispatch and management of additional resources.
We currently staff and operate one 75' Ladder Truck: a 2008 Sutphen (Ladder 52) two Engines: a 2020 KME (Engine 247), and a 2004 Sutphen Spartan (Engine 248). We also operate a 2017 KME Rescue-Engine with full light, cascade, and extrication systems (Rescue 36) and Mini-Attack 10: a 2012 Ford F550 4 Door 4x4. Utility 44 is a 2002 Chevy 2500 and Utility 144is a 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500: both carry fire extinguishers, traffic control, and EMS equipment. In addition, Tanker 15 is a 1994 Kenworth/3D carrying 3000 + gallons of water. A Polaris UTV ( Mini-Attack 35 ) has just been added to our fleet, it has a combination Fire / EMS skid for off-road incidents. We also operate two Marine units, both are inflatables: a 10' Avon and a 14' Mercury with a 25 HP Jet Drive outboard engine. We also have a "Special Operations" trailer which carries additional Haz-Mat supplies and traffic control equipment.
