Last night, Millwood FD hosted the last joint Westchester County Association of Fire Chiefs and Westchester County Association of Fire Districts meeting of the year. These meetings are held to keep conversations open in the county about important safety topics and concerns. During this meeting, we had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by FDNY Lieutenant John Cassidy of Hazardous Materials Company 1 discussing the challenges of lithium ion batteries, different methods of extinguishment, and additional safety concerns post-incident. This valuable training opportunity will benefit all departments in the area as lithium ion batteries become more common.
